A brief history of beer – Czech Beer Museum Prague
To lure you a little, let us briefly let you know some basic historical facts about beer, as an introduction. The first mention of this favourite beverage of Czechs dates back to the year 993.
Bishop Vojtěch couldn´t get enough of beer and decided to build his beer source. So he started to brew beer back that year in Břevnov. It is claimed that originally beer was brought to the Czech lands already during the Migration Period by the Slavs. However, how to brew a perfect tasting beer had lasted many centuries. Slowly, the taste and brewing skills were getting better and breweries were growing one by one.
Significant for the Czech Republic is the establishment of a brewery in Plzeň, in 1842. Plzeň used to brew the best beer far and wide. It was bottled, and so it happened as an inspiration for many other breweries in the Czech. The breweries were brewing better and produced more tasteful beer. This led the Czech Republic to its golden era. Unfortunately, a second world war came, so many breweries were destroyed, or their owners had to close. When the communists took power over the land, only two breweries were established during this time.
These days, owners run their small local breweries. It is many of them. In total, the Czech Republic is 250 breweries of various sizes. For somebody 250 heavens on earth.
